Post News:

Commanders Notes:

Comrades,
It’s that time of year when its harvest time, hunting season, and getting ready for that next season
that I won’t name. I personally love this time of year since it’s cooler after the long hot summer. We
recently had our VFW summer picnic at Finstad’s Campground. If you didn’t make it I would like you
to know that there were plenty of leftovers that everyone was able to take home. A good time was
had by all. We did do one piece of business where we authorized $500 for the Hawaii Fire Disaster
Relief Fund which will be matched by National VFW up to a certain amount.
I recently attended a Brown County Veterans Council Meeting (Sept. 21st) and picked up some info
that I will try to pass on to you at our October meeting. Also, I will be attending a VFW District 2 (Sept.
30th) meeting in Jordan that may also have some info to pass along. Both of these meetings are
quarterly and anyone interested may attend to see what is going on or being discussed.
On November 11th we observe Veterans Day and will have our Post 1648 Raffle Drawing at the New
Ulm American Legion Post 132 Club Room. I plan on attending the New Ulm Veterans Day Program
and hope to see many of you there. The exact location is not yet known, but I'm certain it will be
publicized in the newspapers and on the radio. I believe there will also be a program at MVL on the
8th. Since Veterans Day falls on a Saturday I suspect the program in New Ulm will be on Friday the
10th.
If any members would like to get some of our Veterans Day Raffle tickets to buy or sell, contact Tom
Flatau or myself and we will try to get them to you. If you know or suspect of any veteran or their
family members that are experiencing a hardship please let them know that there is help for them
either from us or the Brown County Veterans Service Office. We will try to help and they need not be
a VFW member. Our monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, even-numbered months at the Sleepy Eye Servicemans Club and odd-numbered months at the New Ulm
Legion Club. Meetings start at 7:00 PM and I would love to see more of you show up. It’s your Post.

Protect Your Benefits from Poaching Scams

Pension Poaching is a financial scam that targets Veterans, service members, and their families with the goal of profiting from VA Pension benefits. Scammers approach Veterans who meet the age,

disability, or income requirements to receive monthly pension payments. Protect yourself and your family by learning to identify and avoid fraudulent practices. Here's a link to information from the VA:
